Geeks and dataphiles all over the world have been anticipating the release of the 2010-2014 American Community Survey (ACS) data from the U.S. Census Bureau. This morning at around 6:00 am, the data went live. I’m happy to tell you that all the ACS charts used in the Wyattopia Charting Engine were also updated to use the latest census data.

The 5-year ACS data published by the Census Bureau has been indispensable in my work as a commercial appraiser and a real estate professional. They allow me to drill down to the block group level (whereas the 3- and 1-year products only apply to areas with populations of 20,000+ or 65,000+, respectively). That’s why nearly all of my commercial appraisal reports includes numerous charts from Wyattopia. It’s also why appraisers, appraisal reviewers, real estate investors, bankers, and other data professionals from across the country rely on Wyattopia charts.

Here are just a few of the Wyattopia charts that have been updated with the 2010-2014 ACS data. (These charts compare the six counties in the Jackson MS Metropolitan Statistical Area (Hinds County, Rankin County, Madison County, Simpson County, Copiah County, and Yazoo County).

Want to generate your own census charts?

It’s easy to create your own census charts (free for now) using the Wyattopia Charting Engine. Just follow these simple instructions:

  1. Go to the Wyattopia mapping application
  2. Enter a single location into the address box
  3. Hit enter or click the search button
  4. Click the “Super Charts” link on the left side of the page

You can compare multiple locations, too

Comparing multiple locations to each other is easy. Basically, you’re going to follow the instructions above, except that you’ll enter multiple locations:

  1. Go to the Wyattopia mapping application
  2. Enter a single location into the address box
  3. Hit enter or click the search button
  4. Repeat steps 2 & 3 for each location you want to include for comparison
  5. Once you’ve entered more than one location, you should see a link at the bottom of the left pane that looks like the one below. Click that link and you’ll be taken to the Wyattopia Charting Engine loaded with all your locations.
